80-135 Introduction to Political Philosophy Units: 9.0 Department: Philosophy Related URLs: http://www.hss.cmu.edu/philosophy As an introductory course, we will seek to trace out the historical and philosophical dimensions of the State from its origins in Ancient Greece to its current manifestation in modern society. Philosophical writings and thinkers to be considered include Plato, Aristotle, Cicero, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Rousseau, Locke, Marx, and Dewey. Contemporary discussions of political theory may include the analysis and critique of utilitarianism, liberalism, libertarianism, Communitarianism, and feminism.
