 76-294 Interpretive Practices This class will introduce students of English to the theory and practice of interpretation through a close reading of fundamental texts. Theories covered will include different strands of feminism, Marxism, cultural studies, semiotics, post-structuralism, gender studies, gay and lesbian studies, post-colonialism, science studies, cultural poetics, and rhetorical theories of culture. In addition to the texts appearing in Rivkin and Ryan's Literary Theory: An Anthology, we will be looking at Alfred Hitchcockπs, "Rear Window," Nella Larsen's Passing, several poems by Adrienne Rich and W. B. Yeats, Philip K. Dick's A Scanner Darkly, and William Shakespeare's The Tempest. |  |
