42-508 Special Topics: Molecular Bioengineering: Structure, Mechanics and Energetics Spring 9 units This class is designed to present concepts of molecular biology, cellular biology and biophysics at the molecular level together with applications. Emphasis will be placed both on the biology of the system and on the fundamental physics, chemistry and mechanics which describe the molecular level phenomena within context. In addition to studying the structure, mechanics and energetics of biological systems at the nano-scale, we will also study and conceptually design biomimetic molecules and structures. Fundamentals of DNA, globular and structured proteins, lips and assemblies thereof will be covered. Pre-requisite: Thermodynamics (06-221 or 24-221) or permission from the instructor: Kris Dahl Also known as 24-539 Special Topics in Technology of Thermal Fluid Sciences
