This course emphasizes the use of modern optical methods in the study of molecular properties and reactivity. Basic topics such as the use of group theory in the analysis of vibrational and electronic spectra are covered in detail. In addition, recently developed techniques such as time-resolved and nonlinear spectroscopies are discussed as are applications of optical methods to problems in chemistry, biology and materials science.
