I got a free t-shirt! Yes, the best thing about the Official Carnival Opening was my receiving a free t-shirt.
Midway opened to the public at 3 p.m. with the introduction of Carnegie Mellon's new mascot, the Scottie Dog. I thought the new mascot was quite cool looking, but there was very little reaction from the crowd in true Mellon style.
I don't know if I'm just crazy, but I thought the booths this year were far more interesting than last year. There was a long line at Sigma Phi Epsilon's "Titanic" booth within minutes of opening. Some of the other booths that caught my eye were the Kappa Alpha Theta, "Theta Discovers Egyptian Tomb: Excavation Begins" booth, TSA's "Dinosaurs on the Loose" booth and the Alpha Epsilon Pi, "The Eagle Has Landed" booth. The Kiltie Band was also out in full strength playing some old favorites.
Today was just the first day and there's still a lot more to come in this Carnival. Hopefully all the booths will be operational by tomorrow so that we can really get this show on the road, or maybe it'll become a roadshow. Who knows?
