So there I was, my 'if-I-were-an-American-citizen-I-would- express-myself-by-not-voting,' banner unfurled, a bag of chips and a soda in front of me, reclining on my not so comfortable University provided chair. It was Monday night, the night before 'Super Duper Tuesday,' when two dozen states were to hold their primaries. Despite the absolutely mediocre name (I would have gone for something like 'the day when most of the remaining candidates get owned Tuesday') this day had been trumpeted by the media (TCPulse is not a member of this information cartel) for over a week. I was expecting something cataclysmic to happen on that Tuesday, but obviously nothing did. Arsenal was still sitting atop the Premier League, people in Kenya and Darfur were still being killed and my Diff-E-Q homework was still due on Wednesday. Gobbledygook!

While Super Tuesday did not affect me in any way, it did have an impact on some obscure politicians' futures. Some guy by the name of John McCain surged ahead of his competitors in the Republican Party nomination race. His main rival, a man with an excellent first name - Mitt Romney, who was expected to perform really well turned out to be a dud. In fact, in the following few days he 'suspended' his White House nomination bid. This, I gather, means that despite having already wasted many millions of dollars this year, he is going to waste some more millions after four years.

The biggest and, in my opinion, best story from the Republican campaign was the rise of Mike Huckabee. Were I an American citizen, I would most definitely consider, but not actually get around to voting for this charming, worldly gentleman. My favorite incident concerning Huckabee so far during the race occurred after the assassination of a famous South Asian politician. While all the other presidential hopefuls were sniveling on and on about how sorry they felt for the people of that nation, Mike Huckabee offered the very refreshing view that all them damn (disclaimer: Huckabee didn't actually use the words, "them damn.") illegal immigrants from that country should just head back as soon as their South Asian legs can carry them (another disclaimer: Huckabee didn't put it exactly like that... his actual comments can be found at http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/12/28/537063.aspx ). Well said sir, well said. Oh and Ron Paul is still in the race, nice fellow.

After Super Tuesday, the Democratic race was still pretty much the same as before (Duper) Super Tuesday. However, at the time of the writing of this article, Obama seems to have swept the remaining primaries. So barring a super duper fancy stealthy ninja attack from Hillary, it seems that McCain and Obama are going to spend this year and a whole lot of money to try and become the next President (fools! Chuck Norris decides who gets to be President).
