It was a perfect day for Sweepstakes, and plenty of Carnival-goers arrived at Tech and Frew Streets to watch the races. The Sweepstakes course takes buggy drivers and pushes up the hill at Tech and Margaret Morrison Streets, down Schenley Drive, and back up Frew Street to finish at the intersection of Frew and Tech Streets. Today's best times allow the top six Women's teams and the top ten Men's teams to advance to the final rounds, which begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Sweepstakes 2007 began promptly at 9 a.m. with the Women's Sweepstakes races. Most of the heats ran smoothly, but two teams were disqualified due to technical errors and one team, SPIRIT B, has been granted a re-roll because PiKA B collided with them in the chute. PiKA B was disqualified due to the collision.

The Men's heats were more heartbreaking. Fringe D's, SigNu B's, AEPi A's, and SDC A's Hill 5 pushers all failed to reach the push bar before the finish line, disqualifying all four teams from the races. SDC A also lost part of their buggy through the chute, and SPIRIT B was warned by a buggy flagger to stop. SPIRIT B has been granted a re-roll. Fringe B has also been granted a re-roll, because Fringe was not given the correct amount of time to prepare their buggy.

PiKA's Men's team has won Sweepstakes for the past five years running, but this year they've come under hard competition. Tomorrow's races begin at 8 a.m. with exhibition rolls, re-rolls at 8:30 a.m., and the final rolls beginning at 9 a.m.

Teams advancing to the tomorrow's races are in bold, those disqualified are denoted by "DQ," and those that didn't finish with "DNF." Times for tomorrow's races are also listed below.
