The Lunar Gala is one of the largest student-run productions at Carnegie Mellon, featuring fashion and entertainment of cultural diversity to celebrate the lunar New Year. Most of the models, designers, entertainers, choreographers, and board members are all Carnegie Mellon students, and about 9 percent of whom are graduate students. Lunar Gala's eleventh annual show took place on Saturday, February 17 in the University Center Wiegand Gym, attracting more than 1,000 people. The theme this year was Vice Versa. Architecture fourth-years Angela Chi and Waz Wu designed Persona, featuring both the modern and the classic. Deviant by HSS first-year Sanyu Kyeyune used sharp and bold colors to paint the street-urban and the elegant. Classhole by CFA seniors Jordan Diatlo and Will Schlough was playful with its interesting combination of colors and fabrics. Wet Toast, from architecture first-year Filip Agren and architecture third-year Marc Manzke, had an unconventional choice of materials with red and white highlights. Woven, by CFA juniors Diana Hurd and Mary Katica, played with different textures and metallic colors. Cycle generously adorned itself to highlight the fabrics' softness; designed by SCS junior Evelyn Chang, it is noted by its fairy tale, childlike energy. Similar to Wet Toast, Pomegranate by CFA senior Grace Li used a lot of red and white, but with a more elegant style. CFA sophomore Gavin Stewart and CFA junior Joannie Wu designed Lush, which employed sustainable and recyclable materials, juxtaposing nature and the modern world.
