After the first three weeks of classes, Student Senate is almost settled in. We will begin filling some vacancies from last year at the next meeting, we passed our first special allocation of the year, and committees are gearing up with their individual projects. Academic Affairs is awaiting a rewording of the Word from the administration. The committee is addressing inconsistencies between Interpretation and Argument sections. It also wants to have CSW (Computing Skills Workshop) include library resources, and thusly give the course some additional units.
Business Affairs is keeping close tabs on printing policies, and also wants to investigate the possibility of putting cluster-style computers in the University Center. They also want to address the problem of smoking right outside of building entrances and underneath of residents' windows, especially on the Hill.
Campus Life hopes to encourage Sex Week to occur close to the Activities Board's TBA film to facilitate more productive discussion.
Communications aims to converse with the student body more effectively by a couple means. The committee hopes to implement more pro-active, issue-based PR via chalking and Doherty posters instead of just regular postering. It also aims to advertise the Donner Printing Kiosk to the Hill.
Funding passed $3,500 from an initial request from Syzygy for $5,000 to fund their annual leadership conference. The event isn't JFC (Joint Funding Committee) funded yet, and had all of its funding from Student Development last year, but that was not a sustainable funding system, so the organization is seeking funding all over campus. The Senate general body amended the amount to $3,000 before passing it.
Additional discussion during the General Body Meeting resulted in the passage of a motion to only fill vacancies in those colleges that were mentioned on posters in the first weeks of school, so that students in all colleges with even recent vacancies will be given due notice.
Author's Note: There were more items from the Campus Life and Internal Development committees that we were not able to compile in time for this release.
