This semester, Carnegie Mellon's Office of Student Affairs is sponsoring "late night" programming for the campus community. This includes Activities Board (AB) and Student Dormitory Council (SDC) films, events in Kirr and Wean Commons after 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, and late night eating in the Underground, the Original Hot Dog Shop, and Skibo. Part of the programming is also to help University students get around Pittsburgh a little easier. The newest addition to CMU's shuttle services is a shuttle that goes to and from the Waterfront on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 p.m. to 2:45 a.m.. Designated stops for drop-off and pick-up are at Loews Movie Theaters and Target. The buses departs the University Center (UC) Turnaround at scheduled times, which can be found at http://www.studentaffairs.cmu.edu/latenight/wfshuttle.cfm.
Jennifer Church, Interim Dean of Student Affairs, says that the shuttle was started based on student demand. "The shuttle started two years ago based on a suggestion from some students in Student Government. They were hoping to create a method of transportation so that students could get to the Waterfront for shopping, movies, and dining on the weekend. The PAT buses do not run as late as the shuttle and often students were unable to take advantage of late movie times."
The Office of the Dean of Student Affairs coordinates the shuttle times and logistics.
