Gamblin' and Dancin'
Aug 28, 2005 12:06 pm | by Ashley Birt and Catherine Scudera

After an afternoon of speeches and presentations at Convocation, first-years got to kick back and relax at either Monte Carlo Casino Night in the University Center (UC) or on the Clippership cruise.

At Monte Carlo night, students could play a variety of classic gambling games, including poker and blackjack. Prizes upon prizes were doled out at the end of the evening. Since fake money was given out for free, everyone was a winner at Casino Night, whether by winning a prize or just having a good time with friends. In addition, the Orientation staff made sure there was plenty of delicious food, including a chocolate fountain.

Clippership was a popular option: all 800 tickets available to the first-years were sold. Similar to Convocation, Carnegie Mellon students can start out their college careers on the Orientation Clippership cruise and end it on the Senior Clippership cruise. The weather Thursday night was very pleasant, which allowed for a smooth ride along the three rivers that meet around The Point of Pittsburgh. Throughout the night, students mingled and danced on the three levels of the Clippership boat, The Majestic.
