Convocation is considered to be the first-years' official welcome to Carnegie Mellon, during which students in each college and interdisciplinary program are recognized as members of the University's community. Head Orientation Counselor Pam Carney (HSS senior), Provost Mark Kamlet, HSS senior Jackie Brook, Professor Karen Stump, and President Jared Cohon all gave speeches to introduce the freshman class to life at Carnegie Mellon and to encourage first-years to "put their hearts in the work" of academics and extracurricular activities. Student Body President and CIT senior Tom Sabram presented the freshman class with their class tile, which will be added to the front entrance of Baker Hall. At the conclusion of the ceremony, President Cohon asked students to rise and be recognized by their colleges' deans, and a group of voice majors sang a beautiful rendition of the University's alma mater.
Welcome, class of 2009+!
