Did you know that you can access Carnegie Mellon's wireless network in Schenley Park? A wireless access point in the park puts the Internet at your fingertips while you bask in the Pittsburgh sun (or clouds) on Flagstaff Hill.

In August 2000, the official coverage area of the Wireless Andrew system was extended to all 33 academic and administrative buildings and 35 residence halls, blanketing 4 million square feet of indoor space. And though it is less reliable, Andrew also seeps out over one or two acres of outdoor space, including Flagstaff, The Cut (the grass between Forbes Ave and Hunt Library), The Mall (the grass between CFA and Hamerschlag), and Gesling Stadium.

On a good day, you can catch Wireless Andrew while sipping on a two-shot venti nonfat extra foamy caramel macchiato at the Starbucks on Forbes Avenue and South Craig Street. Andrew also resides on the block of Fifth Avenue between Dithridge and Bellefield – by Webster Hall, the Software Engineering Institute, and Mellon Institute – though surfing the web while sitting on the steps of SEI or St. Paul's Cathedral might be frowned upon.

If your daily travels bring you outside of the immediate radius around campus, you might want to consider buying a monthly subscription to Telerama's HotSpot wireless.
