Did you know that there is a graphical representation of the campus print queues on the web? No longer do you have to remember the syntax for checking a print queue in telnet. This handy, dandy interface allows you to see information about all of the cluster printers in one view: whether or not they're functioning properly (indicated by a green or red circle, accordingly); whether they are currently processing a job or ready to print; how many jobs are in their queues; and how much paper remains in each printer.

As stated on the printer stats website, "This is a beta/experimental service, and not supported by Clusters, Computing Services, or Carnegie Mellon University." It is the work of Michael Kelleher, a 5th year senior and field consultant for cluster services.

Check out the print stats website before making the trek to a cluster whose printer isn't working. At 12:07 p.m. on Sunday, a printer in Cyert Hall is down and Pear is in serious need of a paper refill. The Baker Hall printers are seeing no action and the operational one in Cyert is working overtime.

Another interesting feature of Kelleher's interface is the PagesPrinted link in which you can see the print histories of every printer on campus. In the past 48 hours, wean-2 has printed 242 pages. baker-2 printed 392 pages on the first day of classes this semester. Uh oh, clicking back on the current stats I just noticed that tray 4 in cyh-8150 is empty. Where's the CCon?
