University bike registration and storage areas
Apr 5, 2004 12:49 am | by Whitney Hess

Did you know that there are more than 50 bike racks around campus? Believe it or not, it’s spring, so dust off your bicycle and get some exercise.

If you ride your bike to campus, be sure to lock it with a U-Lock and register it with University Police. Registration is free and easy – you just need to fill out a form, which you can get online at http://www.cmu.edu/police/forms/bike.doc, or at the police office in the Old Student Center. If you download it from the web, send it by campus mail to University Police, Attn: Crime Prevention Unit.

If you prefer to keep your 10-speed dry, there are bike rooms in the B tower of Morewood Gardens. You can get your own key from the Student Life Office in Morewood, which gives you 24-hour access. Just remember to return the key at the end of the school year.

Also, Parking Services offers fully enclosed steel lockers to anyone with a registered bike. There are about eight available lockers down by the Facilities Management Building next to Newell Simon Hall; each costs $15 per semester plus a $5 key deposit. To rent one, stop by the Parking Services office in the East Campus Garage.

And remember: never ride without a helmet.
